Abstract

It examines Benoît Peeters´s (2003) book Lire la bande dessinée, which offers a multifaceted approach to comics as an artistic language. Peeters explores fundamental tensions, such as the duality between narrative linearity and visual simultaneity, the relationship between text and image, and the historical evolution tied to printing technologies. The book, divided into five chapters, addresses topics ranging from page structure to creative processes, arguing that the strength of comics lies in their ability to integrate contradictions. Peeters rejects reductive definitions, emphasizing the medium's plasticity and its capacity to bridge academic thought and artistic practice.

  • Valter do Carmo Moreira, Universidade Estadual de Londrina

    Licenciado em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina (2014). Especialista em Literatura Brasileira (2015). Mestre em Literatura Comparada (2018) pela mesma instituição.  Doutor em Estudos Literários pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2022). Atualmente é professor EAD no grupo Cogna e docente temporário na Universidade Estadual de Londrina. É autor e pesquisador de histórias em quadrinhos e artista plástico.
