Superman: among comics, speech, sickle and hammer

Abstract

It proposes a critical interpretation of a narrative published in 2003 about the first superhero created for comic books. Published in 1938 in the United States, this character's text relates to the context of his creation. Over the years, Superman incorporated several discourses into his narratives, including the American way. Recognizing this, the narrative entitled Superman: red son (between the hammer and sickle) is analyzed as a textual and discursive genre, according to the chosen theoretical scope, using the social theory of discourse created by linguist Norman Fairclough, founder of the critical analysis of discourse, in ​​Linguistics. This theory highlights three dimensions of analysis, starting with the text, then discursive practice and, finally, social practice. The methodology adopted selects sequences and static frames to analyze the discursive construction of the socialist hero. As a result, the perception that this character is also ideological.
