Chiquinho and Buster Brown: comic strips and globalization in the early 20th Century

It examines the first ten years or so of the Chiquinho comic strip, traces its connections to the Buster Brown strip and detail how the Brazilian strip moved beyond the American original. Buster Brown appeared in other countries beyond the U.S., but nowhere else did he develop into something beyond the American character, and only in Brazil did a character drawn from Buster Brown outlast the original and indeed become a national icon.
