Remakes of folktales and fairy tales are a notable trend in our current filmography. Not every production, however, presents subversive novelties towards the paradigmatic texts, the literary stories or the animated cartoons from Disney. The new filmic version of Snow White and the Huntsman is herein analysed based on the suggestion of memory and cultural evolution proposed by Iuri Lotman, in order to highlight the elements observed by the distinguished theorist and to analyse what was judged worth to be preserved or to be transformed within the film. Amongst the elements that were modified or emphasised in the new version are changes on the protagonists’ functions and the significantly contemporaneity on the theme of “beauty”. The later, indeed, has been deepened in the transmutation and is interpreted in this article through the theories of intellectuals such as Nancy Etcoff, Umberto Eco and Remo Bodei.
