Call for Papers Dossier 52 | Longevity, Generations, and Communication in Contemporary Organizations

2026-06-12

PRESENTATION:

The increase in life expectancy and the demographic transformations observed in recent decades have significantly altered the age composition of contemporary society. These changes, in different national contexts, directly impact organizations, which are now dealing with increasingly diverse internal audiences from a generational point of view, with longer life trajectories and experiences.

In this scenario, longevity becomes a relevant dimension for understanding contemporary organizational dynamics. The simultaneous presence of different generations, transformations in career paths, and changes in social representations of age pose new challenges for organizational culture, diversity management models, as well as the communication processes that structure relationships within organizations.

At the same time, stereotypes and inequalities associated with age persist. Ageism — understood as prejudice or discrimination based on age—manifests itself in institutional discourses, practices, and symbolic dynamics, impacting the recognition, participation, and visibility of different age groups.

In this context, organizational communication and public relations play a central role in mediating these relationships, constructing institutional narratives about longevity and experience, and promoting more inclusive organizational environments. Communication practices contribute to producing meanings about age, belonging, authority, experience, and innovation, influencing how organizations deal with generational diversity.

This issue of Organicom – Brazilian Journal of Organizational Communication and Public Relations invites researchers from Brazil and abroad to reflect on the relationships between longevity, generations, and communication in organizations , exploring different theoretical and methodological approaches that allow for an understanding of the challenges and possibilities that emerge in organizational contexts marked by age diversity.
