Abstract

The careful construct of the normative look, which follows the passage from nature to culture and replaces loose observation of things by the assignment of value to objects, along the process of territorial configuration, witnesses the domestication of individual and collective impulses by means of rules and principles that ultimately consolidate an inflexible and opaque sociological and cultural system. Our vision of that which appears to us in a given moment as landscape is impacted by the apparent triviality of a concrete world of unbending rules. However there always exists in us, in a concealed way, the wish to go beyond the common, the daily trivial, the wish which leads us into attempts to articulate, through social wish-thinking, the objective world of economic production and the subjective world of individual and collective yearning. This constant search to transcend the foreseeable chacacter of reality is the history of the imaginary which, through its multiple visual, mass, digital or virtual expressions, attempts to replace the known trivial by the absent wished for. Utopia thus plays a decisive role in space cognition of contemporary society and in the cultural proposition of such space, by maintaining an interactive relation with reality, being the expression of collective wishes in the organization of space in a given society, in the same way that it constitutes a protest against the transformations in objects, in actions, in production modes imposed to this space by modernization.
