Detention reservoirs in the Federal District: impacts on the urban quality of the informal settlement Buritis, in Sobradinho - DF

Abstract

Conventional detention reservoirs are commonly used in rainwater drainage systems in informal settlements in the Federal District. Considering that these locations also tend to lack qualified public spaces, it is relevant to analyze the effects of the reservoirs used on the urban quality. The objective of this article is to observe the impact of implementing the conventional typology of these structures, disconnected from urban and landscape design, with the observation of the Area for Regularization of Social Interest Buritis as a case study, and posteriorly, suggest that the application of green infrastructure would benefit these spaces. Theoretical references on detention devices and green infrastructures were tracked, in addition to local regulations that guide the urban drainage systems, to verify existing guidelines. Subsequently, the study area and its reservoirs were observed to verify the quality of the public space post-implementation. This article found that some regulations recommend alternative uses in basins, but do not determine landscape treatment, and that the conventional basins implemented do not promote integration and preservation of neighboring green areas.
