The hypotesis of Belvedere Linear Park: social agents and the dispute for free spaces in the city

This work seeks to contextualize and discuss the process of mobilization for the creation of the Belvedere Linear Park, located between the municipalities of Belo Horizonte and Nova Lima, Minas Gerais. The area — in dispute by organized social groups, State, and estate Market — holds socio-environmental importance for the metropolis, bordering the dense urban fabric and advancing over the region of mountains and conservation units. Via field and documentary research, we seek to record the dynamics of the agents involved, contributing to investigations into contemporary landscaping challenges regarding consolidation and use of free spaces. We highlight that the proposal for a new leisure and preservation space has occurred in the practices and discourses of organized residents, even before its institutionalization, revealing the potential of the initiatives of social groups and their actions in shaping the landscape.
