Maringá has always been a special city. It was a totally planned new town whose planning was based upon an urban model that has been aware of environmental, geographical, hydrographical, and ecological issues, without disregarding aesthetics matters. According to current parameters for urban sustainability, the city still holds reasonable levels of urban qualities, which states that the original urban form was a proper response to natural processes. Originally-planned open spaces have basically preserved their original characteristics over the years. However, recent expansion areas have not reproduced those remarkable spatial characteristics and qualities of the original city layout. Based on this situation, this paper aims to reflect upon Maringa’s landscape and its implications in the present system of urban open spaces.Downloads
