Abstract

The present article aims to discuss the roles and functions of trees and forests within cities, depicting their structural importance in shaping the urban landscape and culture. The relationship established between people and vegetated environments, the benefits and opportunities available in the protection of these areas and the identification of the spatial element arrangements of the urban vegetation are addressed. Also addressed are questions about the revision of the Forest Code of 1965 and its possible repercussions for cities, forest and citizens.
