Feeding habits of the lizard Tropidurus hispidus (Spix, 1825) (Tropiduridae) in a transitional Caatinga-Rocky Field Habitat in Northeastern Brazil

Investigamos a dieta do lagarto Tropidurídeo endêmico Tropidurus hispidus em uma área de Caatinga (bioma semiárido no Nordeste do Brasil), em Morro do Chapéu, BA, Brasil. Os lagartos (n = 20) foram coletados e eutanasiados. No laboratório, o conteúdo estomacal foi retirado, analisado e as presas classificadas por ordem, com exceção do material vegetal. Em seguida, correlacionamos as características morfológicas dos lagartos com o número, o volume (em mm3) e o tamanho das presas. Todos os lagartos apresentaram conteúdo em seus estômagos, incluindo artrópodes, material vegetal e restos de vertebrados. A dieta do lagarto apresentou uma quantidade significativa de material vegetal, compreendendo a 50,1% em termos de número e 45,8% em termos de volume . Dentre os itens da dieta, flores (63,6%), formigas (47,0%) e besouros (33,0%) foram os mais frequentes. A composição da dieta foi semelhante entre machos e femeas. Não houve correlação entre as características morfológicas de T. hispidus e o número, o comprimento ou o volume das presas ingeridas. Nossos dados mostraram que T. hispidus na região de Morro do Chapéu é onívoro e os insetos himenópteros e coleópteros são predominantes em sua dieta.
