Biblioteca Central da Universidade Federal de Alagoas: um estudo das práticas de inovação e sustentabilidade

Abstract

Libraries have a responsibility to interact with their target audience, mainly in line with the demands arising from updated information in the social sphere. In this sense, this research project had the general objective: To identify and analyze sustainable actions in the Central Library of the Federal University of Alagoas, which contribute to achieving sustainable development, and the specific objectives were: a) to identify in the literature, the concepts of sustainability , environment and its relationships within libraries; b) to map the sustainable actions carried out in university libraries in Brazil as a promoter of sustainable development; and c) identify sustainability actions in the Central Library of the Federal University of Alagoas. The research was descriptive, qualitative, using as a method, the case study, which consists in the observation of certain individuals, professions, institutions, groups or communities in order to obtain an answer to the questions raised. To carry out the research, discussions were held on which Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) were more focused on actions by University Libraries, with four SDGs being separated: SDG 4 – Quality Education; SDG 10 – Reduction of Inequalities; SDG 12 – Sustainable Consumption and Production and; SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions. Thus, the analysis of the pages of University Libraries in Brazil was carried out, since the research was carried out at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, August 2020 to August 2021, making face-to-face access to the institutions' facilities impossible, and many do not. They weren't even answering by email. The result of the research showed that the University Libraries in Brazil, including BC/UFAL, practice even if incipient sustainability actions according to the selected ODS, but it is also understood that the clear and objective dissemination on the page of these institutions should appear in prominence, a since these institutions are inserted in the context of the academic society, contributing to a critical formation in this area of ​​their users.

Mestre em Ciência da Informação pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.
