Abstract

It deals with the Organization of Knowledge and its relationship with the Historical Bibliography mediated by the book object. The reflections are part of the ongoing dissertation project entitled "The Library of Recife Law School and its systematic catalog of 1896: an analysis from the perspective of the Knowledge Organization and the Historical Bibliography." The research approved in the Graduate Program in Information Science of the Federal University of Pernambuco aims to demonstrate how the field of action of the Historical Bibliography, as a theoretical-methodological apparatus, confers an interdisciplinary character to the Knowledge Organization. Documentary and bibliographic research has epistemological support in Information Science, specifically in the Knowledge Organization and in the interdisciplinary relationship established with Library and Book History. The historical-bibliographical analysis highlights the 1896 General Catalog of the Recife Law School Library and its constitutive elements: nature, planning, materiality, repertoire and semantic analysis of the documental corpus. The General Catalog is the basic tool for understanding the socialization of recorded knowledge.
