Função social dos arquivos do memorial da democracia da Paraíba

Abstract

This communication is the outcome of the discussion that took place during a round table discussion promoted by the Paraíba Democracy Memorial within the scope of the 4th National Week of Archives. The event brought together professionals from archival science, history and anthropology to discuss the social function of human rights archives, especially those archives that compose the museum collection of the Paraíba Democracy Memorial. The reflections also count with the report of the Argentine experience of creation of the Museum of the ex-ESMA, which emphasizes the importance of the documentation of human rights for the memorial institutions, and also the education for the promotion of the human rights. Understanding the importance of documentary heritage for museums and memorials goes beyond its theoretical aspects of documentary and museum management. These collections fulfil a social function to human rights that is indispensable for democracy.
