Projects for developing the preservation of digital documents
identification of national and international support initiatives
Abstract
Digital preservation, an action that aims to keep objects over time for future access, needs to be worked on and discussed in all institutions that start the process of producing digital documents. The maintenance of authenticity, reliability and long-term access to the digital documents produced will be carried out with the official commitment of the organization to the practice of digital preservation, when it will adopt appropriate procedures and continuous investments. The preservation development process requires resources that are not always available and accessible to organizations. However, there are possibilities to reduce investments, such as entering into partnerships with other institutions and participating in projects that aim to encourage and assist in the preservation implementation process, training servers, offering infrastructure, facilitating access to the necessary resources. This article discusses some initiatives, national and international, of institutions that are dedicated to digital preservation and aim to support institutions in the development of digital preservation actions. With a bibliographic search, the main digital preservation projects in the world were identified, there are six initiatives developed in the American and European continents. From these projects, a series of theoretical documents resulting from the developed practices were developed, in addition to technologies aimed at digital preservation. The objective is to facilitate access to the knowledge and instructions presented.
