A primeira grande monografia de Bronislaw Malinowski completa 100 anos. Foi em 1922 que a editora Routledge publicou Argonautas do Pacífico Ocidental. Durante o último século, o livro foi ora aplaudido, ora criticado, mas marcou a antropologia com um antes e um depois – antes e depois de Argonautas. A obra tornou-se célebre por estabelecer padrões para a pesquisa de campo e resultar de um trabalho longo e intensivo. A partir daí, adquiriu aspectos míticos como rito de iniciação na disciplina. O reconhecimento de que a monografia alcançou enorme prestígio na antropologia pode ser visto nas inúmeras publicações por ocasião da proximidade do seu centenário, em várias partes do mundo, reunindo estudos, novas avaliações, debates e depoimentos.
