Abstract

This article claims to analyze the psychological torments of the protagonist of Maria Cora (1906), by Machado de Assis, great reader of Arthur Schopenhauer and creator of a literature that supports philosophical investigation, from the perspective of Arthur Schopenhauer’s philosophy. We will analyze how the implicit aspects of the character’s suffering could be transposed to Machado’s literature through Schopenhauer metaphysical and psychological reflections.
