Emerging Mobilization Against "Gender Ideology": The Cases of Latin America and Eastern Europe

Anti-gender mobilizations are observed in various parts of the world, with religious and secular actors joining forces to combat the so-called "gender ideology." In Latin America and Eastern Europe, thousands of people have come together and taken to the streets to protest against abortion, sex education, and the LGBTQIA+ population. But what led these unknown individuals to unite around a common cause? How did the recruitment process of these individuals for protests against gender policies take place? The literature on Social Movements has been trying to answer these questions, and one of the main contributions comes from the works of Doug McAdam. Based on McAdam's theory of the emergent mobilization process, we can reach some conclusions about anti-gender mobilization in Latin America and Eastern Europe.
