Adherence of physical activity in patients with Cystic Fibrosis before and after intervention of the Physical Education professional

Abstract

The study evaluated the adherence to physical activities of Cystic Fibrosis patients at the pediatric pulmonology of Hospital of Clinicas of Porto Alegre before and after the participation of the physical education professional in the multidisciplinary care team. This is a retrospective cohort study, in which the analysis of secondary data and data 78 patients aged 4 to 18 years, who had consultations at the hospital from February 2015 to February 2018. The average level of physical activity between the years 2016 and 2017 and between 2015 and 2017 showed an increase of 11.63% ± 1.96 (p <0.001) and 12.70% ± 2.52 (p <0.001), respectively. However, the comparison between 2015 and 2016, did not show a significant increase of 1.07% ± 2.27 (p> 0.05). Regarding the frequency of weekly physical activity, the comparison between the year 2015 and 2016, 2016 and 2017, 2015 and 2017 showed a significant increase of 1.65 ± 0.39 (p <0.001), 1.97 ± 0.34 (p <0.001), and 3.62 ± 0.43 (p <0.001), respectively. The increase in the level and frequency of weekly physical activity was associated with the inclusion of specialized guidance from the physical education professional in monitoring of Cystic Fibrosis patients.
