Abstract

The objective of the present study was to analyze the functional performance, through bilateral comparison, of the lower limbs of young futsal athletes. Thirty healthy young futsal athletes (15 F and 15 M), with mean age of 14.30 (± 1.06) years old, were part of the sample. For the functional performance analysis of the lower limbs, some hop tests (single hop test, triple hop test, crossover hop test and timed hop test) and the Y balance test were used. The t test for repeated measures with Cohen's d effect size and the asymmetry index were used to compare the limb's performance. In addition, one sample Student's t-test was employed to compare with the normative value (94%) for analysis of the composite score of the Y balance test. A significance level of p < 0.05 was considered. No statistically significant differences were found in comparing the dominant limb and the non-dominant limb in any hop tests. In the Y balance test, only the anterior direction demonstrated a significant difference between the limbs. In addition, the asymmetry rates between the limbs align with what the literature recommends (< 10%) in both tests, in all comparisons performed. It can be concluded that the short period of practicing (4.57 years on average) and the incomplete muscular development of the athletes evaluated (due to the age of these athletes) are responsible for the symmetries between the limbs found in the functional assessments.
