Abstract

A coupled weather and sea waves foreeast system is presented to be applied operationally on the South Atlantic region. This system is compounded by one atmospheric limited area model (LAM) and two nested wind generated surface sea wave models: the gross mesh mrdel (SWGM) and the fine mesh model (SWFM). The SWGM covers an area of 10(6) km² roughly, and aims to generates and propagates sea waves far away from the Brazilian Coast. The SWFM is one way nested into SWGM in a domain 10(4) km² with a fine batimetric structure included. Both sea wave models use the time and spatial files of the 10 m height wind produced by LAM as the atmospheric forcing. An example of the event occurred during the 9-11 August 1988 is presented using the forecast system proposed.
