Abstract

In addition to the dispute between liberal and conservative intellectuals there appeared, in the middle of the nineteenth century, a group of radical critics that introduced a new line of thought, of a materialist sort, which soon conquered a relevant space within the Russian society. In the Soviet Union, this new line of thought was related to the idea of socialist realism.
