Experiences of the future time through science fiction: analysis of the changes of perception of the future from the cold war to the 21st century

From the reflections on the concept of presentism, by François Hartog, this article intends to identify the signs of the emergence of a “modern regime of historicity” in works of science fiction produced between the beginning of the Cold War and 2017. We defend that, gradually, science fiction films and books presented increasingly diverse and dystopian futures, reflecting the multidirectional present and the crisis of time defended by the French historian. Our work is divided in three periods: Cold War, years 1980-1990 and 21st century. In each of them we try to perceive, at the same time, the prevailing visions about the future, the contexts of the present that justify these visions and their diversity. In total, 109 works on the future were analyzed, classified by periods of production and by future representation expressed in the work.
