Sleep deprivation in medical students in service at the basic health units and its consequences

Introduction: The undergraduate students belong to a group with high probabilities to show daily excessive somnolence and bad sleep quality. Objective: The objective of this article was to investigate the sleep deprivation of students from the health area, who work at attendance in UBS, Paracatu-MG, with the purpose to show this reality and develop solutions to solve this problems. Methods: The study is cross-sectional and was used questionnaires to interview Results: It was observed about the sleep time per night that 34% sleeps on an average of 7 hours. About the use of medicines to maintain awake for a long period of time, 4.1% reported the use, 60% of which uses Ritalin. The deprivation of sleep changes the academic performance of 88.54% of the respondents. Conclusion: From the article, it was verified that the majority of the students from the health area of UBS, Paracatu-MG, sleep an average 7 hours, which is related with the bad sleep quality, resulting in a low academic performance.Downloads
