Objective: Assess the prevalence of gestacional anemia in pregnants in the referral maternity hospital of Santa Catarina. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted from March to May 2017, in a public maternity hospital in the south of Brazil. Data were obtained by reviewing medical records, prenatal cards, and applying a standardized questionnaire to the parturients in the immediate postpartum period. The outcome analyzed was the presence of gestational anemia. Multinomial logistic regression models were constructed to calculate the ratio of chance and adjusted for confounding variables. The level of statistical significance adopted was 5% (p <0.05). Results: 740 parturients were evaluated, which from 263 (35.6%) had hemoglobin value indicated gestational anemia in one of the three trimesters. The anemic population was characterized by lower maternal age, education and percentage of married women, higher prevalence of underweight BMI and earlier prenatal care. Conclusion: The prevalence of gestational anemia in this study was 36.5%
