Introduction: Understanding the pathophysiology of COVID-19 and factors associated with the severe evolution of this disease is essential for the establishment of better preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to combat the new coronavirus. Objective: To identify the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics associated with the clinical outcome of hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in a private service in a city in the interior of São Paulo. Method: Data from 117 hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19, seen from July to December 2020, were included. The data were analyzed through Pearson’s non-parametric chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test, with a 5% level of statistical significance (p <0.05). Results: Most hospitalized patients are male, aged between 61 and 70 years, in the ward for 8.7 days, and 29.9% died. Hypertension and low oxygen saturation represented, respectively, the most frequent comorbidity and severity factor. Conclusions: Among hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19, the clinical outcome was associated with severity factors, age group and impaired renal function.
