The Amyand hernia was first described by the French surgeon Claudius Amyand in 1735, when an 11-year-old child underwent appendectomy due to fecal fistula in the inguinal region. Amyand hernia is a rare type of hernia where the vermiform appendix is found in the sac of the inguinal hernia. The appendix within the hernia may be normal or with complicated appendicitis. The incidence of this type of hernia represents about 1% of the inguinal hernias. The authors describe a case of a patient with a right inguinal hernia where the vermiform appendix was found inside the hernia sac and its management.
