Radiological findings in patients with covid-19: an iconographic analysis

Abstract

 

ABSTRACT: This study examines the typical and atypical radiological patterns of COVID-19 in chest computed tomography (CT) scans, aiming to facilitate the diagnosis and clinical monitoring of patients. The images were obtained from an anonymous database at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CEMED), including patients with confirmed diagnoses between 2020 and 2023. In the early stages of infection, ground-glass opacities were predominant, located bilaterally in the peripheral and subpleural regions of the lower lobes. Mosaic paving, identified in high-resolution CT scans, showed thickening of interlobular septa with associated reticulations, indicating disease progression. In cases 10 to 14 days after symptom onset, pulmonary parenchymal consolidation was observed, characteristic of advanced stages of infection. The findings presented aim to support the identification and interpretation of radiological patterns associated with COVID-19, serving as a clinical support tool.
