SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION ON WATER IN SANTOS CITY

Abstract

As a natural source of life, the water awakens mankind to a serenity and completeness not found in any of the other elements. This is evident in the contemporary society with the raise of value of areas near the sea, rivers, lakes and lagoons, used in our cities as public recreational facilities, sports or simple contemplation of its natural beauty.

On the other hand, the insufficient control over the water system and the unpreparedness of some cities toward the tidal and river floods may bring the opposite effect, i.e., the decrease of value of such areas due to the risks of flooding.

This inversion of values, also caused by pollution of urban water, compelled some cities to put their valuable areas out from the water system.

This article aims to make a superficial analysis about possible interventions able to enhance the combination of urban landscape and natural beauty of waterways, using as a study of case the estuary of Santos Port.
