História e ambivalência no Magellan de Hollis Frampton

Magellan é o projeto de filme que consumiu a última década da carreira de Hollis Frampton, mas ainda assim permanece em grande parte não investigado. Frampton declarou uma vez que “toda a história da arte é nada mais que uma imensa nota de rodapé para a história do cinema”, e Magellan é uma tentativa incrivelmente ambiciosa de construir essa história. É uma metahistória do cinema e da tradição da história da arte que incorpora múltiplas mídias (filme, fotografia, pintura, escultura, animação, som, vídeo, linguagem escrita e falada) e antecipa desenvolvimentos em novas mídias geradas por computador.
