Abstract

Beginning with a hermeneutics of musical practices and ideas engendered in West by the ancient Greek tradition (VIII to IV centuries B.C.), this paper proposes reflections upon the musicality of voice and vocal scripture. The question about the music and words relations suggests new interpretations of the musical-literary formation in Antiquity, as it is presented in tractates, in literature and in musical notation remains. The path of research circumscribes the historical period in which we perceive multidimensional features of music, text and oral tradition. My aim is to reflect about the complex relations among performance, memory, musical scripture and aural composition, by the Humanistic Philosophy of Music perspective (LIPPMAN, 2006).
