Abstract

By studying the archive of the independent publication MUSICS (1975-1979), associated with the London Musicians’ Collective, this article proposes to discuss the interdisciplinary arts scene of the period through three axis of analysis: the context of the magazine and the art practices it addresses, connected to a “second generation” of musical improvisation in London; the networks of contacts between these musicians, who shared headquarters and events with the London Filmmakers’ Co-operative, among others; the interdisciplinary creative process of certain artists, as documented by the magazine. The article thus seeks to address MUSICS both as an important archive and as a catalyst agent of interactions between experimental arts in the period in London, integrating it into the larger repertoire of expanded art poetics in the 1970s.
