This article aims - from many researches and extension experiences with Kaingang - point out some considerations about the limitations of the Cartesian paradigm still prevails in Universities and show that one way to overcome them is to adopt (trans and inter) disciplinary approach. I try to show that this feature allows you to advance in the analysis of the complexity of the realities experienced by Kaingang throughout recent history. For this I cut out the research on Kaingang territories and territoriality in Parana and Santa Catarina. Finally, I try to show that there are still important aspects of socio-cultural and historical reality of these people who have been not the subject of specific research.
