Breaking with idealization: the athletic greek bodies

In this article, we intend to discuss representation patterns of Greek athletes’ bodies in the attic images from the Classical period. We will defend that, although hegemonic, the iconographic scheme that favored the Apollonian model of Greek athletes’ bodies was not the only one. The bodies that are distant from this model and that were grouped by John Davidson Beazley in the “Fat Boy Group” will be the focus of our analysis
