Resumo

Lady Callcott foi uma viajante britânica que atuou na crítica e no colecionismo de arte. A partir de seu livro Essays towards the history of painting, podemos discutir o estabelecimento de uma metodologia científica para a história da arte e entender a participação das mulheres na crítica de arte. Defendemos que a observação direta e a descrição das coleções, aspectos observados no livro de Callcott, eram recursos usados para atestar a autenticidade das obras adquiridas por museus e colecionadores particulares.
