Main medication errors in oncology

The current research addresses the main medication errors in oncology that can lead to severe adverse events and could be prevented in the medication process. Such events are often caused by low therapeutic indices and the high toxicity of antineoplastic drugs. Patient safety protocols regarding medication use aim to qualify the processes and health professionals involved in patient care. Investigating the state of the art on this subject means contributing to the understanding of these errors, as well as identifying which errors are most frequently reported in the literature and what interventions can be implemented as strategies to minimize them. A systematic review was conducted, searching for articles published in the last five years and available in databases such as the Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO, PubMed - US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, Virtual Health Library – VHL, and Google Scholar. A total of 24 articles related to the topic were found, 15 articles (62.5%) in English and 9 articles (37.5%) in Portuguese. All articles cited interventions that were implemented to prevent errors in the medication process.
