Objectives: This article aims to describe a case of mucormycosis and provide a brief overview of its association with COVID-19. Methods: A review of the medical literature was performed using Web of Science. The bibliometric survey in the main collection of Web of ScienceTM identified 41 articles. For the development of these articles 668 references were used, with an average of approximately 16 references per article. Results: The medical literature indicates an important link between mucormycosis and COVID, as well as an increased risk of this disease in patients with previous comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus. There was also a significant increase in the number of cases in the last years of the pandemic. Conclusion: Health care professionals caring for critically ill COVID-19 patients should be aware of opportunistic infections that can complicate the course of the disease.
