Abstract

Objective: to validate the content and appearance of the educational handbook “Sofia’s Story”: educational technology to promote the development of children born prematurely”. Method: qualitative-quantitative methodological research. Data collection through a focus group and a web-based questionnaire with judges from the areas of health, education and communication, and focus groups with a target audience. A content validity index (CVI) of 78% was considered. Qualitative data were submitted to content analysis. Results: 54 professionals participated, 45 from the health area and 9 from the communication and educational field, and 16 family caregivers. The educational material was validated by health judges with a CVI of 100% in all questions, by the judges of education and communication with a general CVI of 91.9%. Family caregivers considered the language of the material clear and accessible, reflecting their experience, and meeting a gap in guidance on the development of children born prematurely; they reported interest in using it and sharing it with other families. Conclusion: The educational material was considered valid in terms of content and appearance, with the potential to support families in promoting the development of children born prematurely, and to support the practice of the professionals who take care of them.
