Abstract

The school responsibilities in the area of health are presented. The principles that should serve as a basis for the school health education program, its objectives and its areas, are focused. The preparation and functions of the School Health Education specialist, a member of the school health team, are analysed and the School Health Education Course offered by the School of Public Health, University of São Paulo, Brazil, is described.
