Baratynski's "The ring", a fantastic short story from 19th century

This article presents the translation of the short story "The ring" ("Persten’", 1830), by Yevgeny Baratynski (1800-1844), suceded by a brief presentation of the author and comments regarding the story and its translation. This is the author's only work of prose fiction; he was a Romantic poet remembered especially for his elegies and philosophical poems. The story belongs to the tradition of fantastic literature, which was gaining popularity in Russia in the 1830s. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first translation of the story into Brazilian Portuguese.
