Abstract

The article discusses the formation of the group The Comedians in the 1930s, inserting it within the artistic proposals and actions of the Association of Brazilian Artists (AAB). Thus, notes are presented for a fundamental period in the design of artistic and intellectual projects and debates that would bring reverberations in the "gestation" of the theatrical group known as the founder of Brazilian modern theater. Looking for the fragments of the Association, a dynamic cultural environment, propitiating circulations of ideas, consecrations and sociabilities, aims to outline social processes, artistic imaginations and practices that allow us to glimpse projects and work mechanisms. In this way, thinking about the theoretical, social, political and spatial conformations around which the AAB was articulated, allows us to characterize it as an exemplary cut of a cultural field.
