Abstract

This article presents a historical approach on the creation of the Opera- Drama Studio, also known as Stanislavski’s last studio. The studio remained under his direction from 1935 to 1938, year of his death. This article was written as a preparation for the research on Stanislavski’s pedagogical procedures in his last years later conducted at the archives of the Moscow Art Theatre Museum, between November 2017 and February 2018. In this way, it contextualizes the Opera-Drama Studio in a brief introduction, after which it presents some historical premises that led to its creation, such as the “Academy of Theatre Arts” proposed my Maksim Gorki and developed by Stanislavski. After that, we present one of the main characters in the Studio’s creation and administration, director and pedagogue Zinaída Sokolova, Stanislavski’s sister. Finally, the article exposes the student selection process to the Studio and its opening ceremonies, in October and November, 1935.
