The following text presents the transcript of a recent interview with São Paulo-based performer Micaela Cyrino, whose works are marked by engagement with social issues, such as the fight for quality public healthcare and gender and racial equity. Among her most notable works are Cura (2015) and $OROPO$ITIVA (2019), performed both in Brazil and abroad, and which are also featured in the archives of the Hemispheric Institute managed by the Performance School, affiliated with New York University. In this conversation, Cyrino unveils her main aesthetic and ethical influences, as well as highlights the fundamental points and current challenges of black and counter-hegemonic art.
