Gender and sexuality in the collective health courses curriculum

Abstract

The graduation in collective health (GCH) is recent in the country and has sought to build its identity. Gender and sexuality interfere with health conditions and should be considered in the training of health workers. Thus, we sought to analyze in this study the inclusion of gender and sexuality issues in the GSC curriculum in Brazil. By analyzing the content of the course sheets of almost all courses, it was observed that: the main categories of objectives and programmatic content pointed to the treatment of the themes in an intersectional way; the teaching and assessment methodologies favored student participation, autonomy, and reflexivity; and in the references, studies on women’s health stand out. It is concluded that despite the space already conquered, it is necessary to broaden this debate, mainly regarding human sexuality and the health of men, which have remained on the margins of the curriculum.
