Abstract

The article presents the program Tecendo Redes de Paz (Weaving Peace Networks), developed by the Technical Area of the Culture of Peace, Health and Citizenship of the Municipal Health Department of São Paulo, responsible for the development of the articulated public policies of prevention, health promotion and integral care for people in violence situations. The program aims to reduce the impact of violence and of accidents on the citizens of the city of São Paulo, and to contribute to the process of construction of a culture of peace and non-violence. In terms of strategies, the program invested in the formation of a Care Network in all regions of the city, trying to qualify the professionals to deal with violence. It strengthened the work in inter-sector networks in order to create the Peace Networks, and contributed to the implementation of the Information System for Violence and Accidents Surveillance (Sivva). As for results, the program successfully placed violence as a public health problem in a more consolidated way in the Municipal Health Department of São Paulo, and it has been observed that the health workers are interested in participating in the construction of the Peace Networks.
