Abstract

The present work intends to discuss the capital punhisment in the Brazilian society ambit. Therefore, in the introdutory note, the author mentions the proposal for the constitucional amendment which will be submitted to popular consult for its adoption in Brazil. It makes reference to the world ethical movement about the subject it. Also mentions the historical antecedents which are fundamental for the discussions which emphasize the attitude towards the theme of the work. The author makes use of considerable data and it becomes evident that most of times there isn't causal relation between the capital punishment and the crime occurence. It also reinforces the matter about the executioner. The author discourses about the methods employed in the cruel suffering of the condemned persons. The author, who is also a physician, a defender of human life, concludes his work alluding to the posture of the Brazilian Section for International Amnisty which is opposed to the intransigence and to the capital punishment. At last he relates in a summarized form doctors behaviour in face of the matter about capital punishment.
