Abstract

This article aims at the investigation of executive cashiers’ health-conditions at a state bank in Porto Alegre, passing by an intense process of restructure, and the analysis of the risk factors making its employees ill.

Material and Methods Results: The main claims and major sickening factors are excessive work volume, insufficient breaks, stressing activity, uncomfortable noise, unsatisfactory medical exams in the bank, uncomfortable/inadequate chair, uncomfortable/inadequate desk/counter/ teller’s window, uncomfortable/inadequate equipment/machines, inadequate postures in relation to head, arms and hands (significance .001). Conclusion: It was identified that the major problems with the bank-cashier activity are due to the excessive work volume, mental effort requirements and mainly the inadequate postures related to head, hands and arms. The complaints on work organization factors, and the ones on psychosocial environment and furniture show the necessity of changes not only in the physical environment but also in the organizational one as well as in the production process conception of these bank employees. The stress and working days, often long ones, favor the cashier’s welfare and health problems in his/her search for accomplishing the existing services demands. : One hundred and thirty eight executive cashiers from thirty four bank branches have participated in the research. Data have been collected through questionnaires. Pearson Correlation Test has been used to analyze the casual relationship determination (significance 5 %) for the analysis of work loads and the way they determine the wear/sickening.
