Líbero Luxardo and the production of newsreels in Pará in the 1940s and 1950s

This paper deals with the production of newsreels held in the state of Para in the 1940s and 1950s by filmmaker Líbero Luxardo, aiming to enlarge the knowledge about it, taking into account that a very low percentage of films survived to these days and data about it are quite restricted. It discusses its features, the support that enabled its accomplishment, the circuit in which it was exhibited, as well as their periodicity. It examines Homenagem póstuma a Barata Magalhães, special edition ending the cycle of newsreels carried out in association with the politician Magalhães Barata, especially its construction, its exhibition context and the implications arising therefrom.
