We analyze different documentary approaches to the celebrations of May 1, 1968, in Cuba, made for cinema and television. We started with images present in an edition of Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano, and images from that same event possibly sent by a North American news agency, United Press International (UPI), to the news program O Seu Repórter Esso, broadcast by TV Tupi. The different options visible in the editing of the reports highlight ideological meanings related to the Cold War and allow us to reflect on similarities and distances between the production process and the language resources of newsreels and television news at that time.
