There is an important distiction to be made bctwccn Duchamp's general relevance to the "History of Ideas" (his major contribution to modem criticism) and the particular concepts revealed by comparing his intentionality with that of Modernism. Most interpretations of Duchamp's sudden decision to cease being a 'painter"miss lhe point '. This pape r considers this moment of Duchamp 's career as a complex attitude and not necessarily a 'mistery' to be solved, suggesting that above ali il was a conscious decision: to cause 'delays' in the diachronical time (Modernism).Downloads
